All it takes is 10 mindful minutes | Andy Puddicombe

When is the last time you did absolutely nothing for 10 whole minutes? Not texting, talking or even thinking? Mindfulness expert Andy Puddicombe describes the transformative power of doing just that: Refreshing your mind for 10 minutes a day, simply by being mindful and experiencing the present moment. (No need for incense or sitting in strange positions.) TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and much more. I actually like to make the atmosphere like it is a big deal, sort of organizing the place where I meditate, by putting some candles in the floor, maybe incense sometimes. I know it is not obligatory but it helps me to kinda make it my own moment. I hope it is still ok

thanks to headspace, now I can meditate on my own. And as weird as it sounds, sometimes i when I just wanted to last for only 5 minutes, I ended up meditated for 20!

meditation is doing something if you focus your mind on nothing your mind is focused clearing the mind takes the work of the mind which could becomes very very dangerous, this is because meditation is a spiritual act and not physical. So In order to meditate properly, a person needs to be free from distractions, alone with his thoughts, so to speak. Isaac, for example, went out walking alone in the early evening to meditate, possibly about his coming marriage to Rebekah. (Ge 24:63) It was during the solitude of the night watches that the psalmist meditated on the greatness of his Grand Creator. (Ps 63:6) The meditations of the heart should be focused on beneficial things, on Jehovah’s splendor and activities, on things pleasing to him (Ps 19:14; 49:3; 77:12; 143:5; Php 4:8), and not on the devices of the wicked.—Pr 24:1, 2.

If Buddha were here he would've be very happy to see how greatly some one has presented what he though all the way back to 2000 years ago and I think this is what we often consider as greatness that we are valuing the ideals that someone has gave such a mind boggling years ago.

Just like Homer Simpson this mans appeal lies in the fact that his head is so bald and shiny it becomes hypnotic.I cant help but follow the contours of those light glimmers as he turns his magnificent dome. Seriously though good advice, mindfulness and meditation should really be taught in every school

Has anyone else had no luck with mindfulness? I've been doing it twice a day for almost a year and in this time I've only become more anxious. Not that mindfulness is making things worse or anything like that, but just does it not work for everyone?

So basically meditation trains the brain not to over think things. He was able to juggle like that because he wasn't worrying about his hands being there. Instead just relying on the balls to be there. All he has to do is remember a pattern and a time frame. Freeing his mind to be able to communicate with the audience?

This is an ancient practice (very well illustrated and summarised here) sometimes called the perennial philosophy. Eckhart Tolle is the latest populariser of this (in clear language, and to find this teaching buried in every religion), and before him were Alan Watts and Krishnamurti, and others before them, going back to the original ancient Hinduism (before it degenerated into a pantheon of very human-like 'gods'). Eckhart Tolle quotes the following from original Hinduism: It is not WHAT the eye can see, but THAT whereby the eye IS ABLE to see -- know this to be Brahma the Spirit, and not what people here on Earth adore. It is not WHAT the skin can feel, but THAT whereby the skin IS ABLE to feel -- know this to be Brahma the Spirit, and not what people here on Earth adore. It is not WHAT the mind can think, but THAT whereby the mind IS ABLE to think -- know this to be Brahma the Spirit, and not what people here on Earth adore. (And one could go through the other physical senses before one gets to the mind.) We are not our mind. We are an Awareness that observes all things without judgement or reaction, including the thoughts and emotions that our mind throws up. When we are lost in our mind, we are really unconscious, and so we need to practice observing our mind (with bemused detachment), so the Awareness that is really us can awaken. The Bhudda means the awakened one.

What does mindfulness mean to you? 🌿 More often than you would think, people tell me they have never heard of the concept really, or it doesn't mean anything specific for them. Mindfulness is an art you discover from within. You need to be aware of this tool and allow yourself space to explore.
